Eyelid Surgery
Procedure Steps
An eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery procedure includes the following steps:
Step 1: Anesthesia
Medications are given to patient for comfort during the
surgical procedure. There are two kinds of anesthesia and these include
intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Your doctor is responsible to
choose the best for you.
Step 2 – The incision
The incision lines in the eyelid surgery are well designed
so that scars will be well concealed within the natural structures of the
eyelid region. The upper eyelid can be corrected with an incision within the
natural crease on the eyelid. This allows removing and repositioning of fat
deposits, tightening of muscles, and finally removal of excess skin. Problems
in the lower eyelid can be corrected with an incision just below the lower lash
line. By this incision excess skin in the lower eyelids is removed. The excess
fat can be repositioned or removed. Transconjunctival incision is created on
the inside of the lower eyelid. It is an alternate technique to correct lower
eyelid conditions and also redistribute and remove excess fat. With this
technique, no skin is removed.
Step 3 – Closing the incisions
Eyelid incisions typically are closed with the following.
First are the removable sutures, skin adhesives, and surgical tape. Your
surgeon may suggest use of a laser or chemical peel to reduce discoloration of
the lower eyelids.
Step 4 – See the perfect results
The results with the eyelid lift surgery will appear slowly
as well as the swelling and bruising subsides to reveal a smooth,
better-defined eyelid and surrounding region, and an alert and rejuvenated
appearance.
